Alumni* Dance Classes

with Marie Nychka & Lin Snelling

Sundays from 11:30am-1pm at the Movement Studio (Room 3-117) in the University of Alberta's Fine Arts Building. 

A drop in dance-for-actors class that will focus on developing skills in learning set choreography of varying styles and strengthening the technique needed to make it look good.  Each class will be geared to the needs of the students in attendance. Intermediate level, prior dance experience is an asset. Experience working with Marie and Lin is preferred. 

*This class is intended for alumni of the BFA acting program at the University of Alberta. If you are not an alumni and wish to attend, please contact us at info@punctuatetheatre.com. Acceptance will be at the discretion of the teachers.

Marie Nychka began her career as a dancer with such companies as the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Ballet de Roma, and Ballet Brazil.  Since expanding into theatre and film over 30 years ago she has worked as a freelance director/choreographer and actorthroughout Canada.   She teaches in both the the BA Drama and BFA Acting Programs at the University of Alberta and is a regular faculty member with Opera Nuova.  She has 7 times been nominated and twice received the Elizabeth Sterling Haynes Award and in 2005 was also nominated for a Betty Mitchell Award all for Outstanding Choreography.

Lin Snelling’s performance, writing and teaching is based in the qualities improvisation can offer as it applies to dance, theatre, and somatic practice. She toured the world extensively as a performer with Carbone 14 and worked with many improvisation ensembles. As an Associate Professor at the University of Alberta she is presently teaching dance, experiential anatomy and composition. Her most recent dance collaborations are Performing Book with visual artist Shelagh Keeley at MoMA(New York), the Power Plant (Toronto) and Vancouver Art Gallery (2014-15). She works with choreographer Tedi Tafel and was part of Every Day, Life World and the Calendar Project in Montreal.
