BIOGRAPHY
Gianna Vacirca is an Alberta based actor and dancer and emerging choreographer. She's also becoming a Pastaia, or a woman who makes pasta by hand. After recently reconnecting with her Great Aunt Gianna in Milan (where Gianna in Edmonton gets her name), she decided to dedicate herself to studying pasta tradition, pastaia technique, and the geographical origins of the hundreds of pasta shapes that fill our bellies day in and day out. Pastaia will be Gianna in Edmonton’s investigation into the stories that pasta itself has to share with us. How classism, divorce, war, the Italian diaspora, and fascism all play a role in the food so many of us love to eat.
