JOSH LANGUEDOC
BIOGRAPHY
Josh Languedoc is an Anishinaabe playwright, theatre artist, and educator working as a guest in Amiscwacis Waskhagan. For the last two years, Josh has toured across Canada with his solo storytelling show Rocko and Nakota: Tales From the Land. Other writing projects include The Eyes of Spirits (Workshop West Playwrights Theatre, Dreamspeakers, Native Earth Performing Arts), CIVIL BLOOD: A Treaty Story (Thou Art Here Theatre), and his most recent project, IN-COR-RI-GI-BLE: The Legend of Thundervoice (Blyth Festival). As an educator, Josh has taught for the Citadel Theatre, Artstrek, Edmonton Public Schools, and Workshop West's #WritesOfPassage Teen Playwrighting Program. Josh is currently a student at the University of Alberta working on his Masters of Fine Arts in Theatre Practices with a research interest in Indigenous playwriting and storytelling. Josh is a proud member of the Playwrights Guild of Canada and the Anishinaabe reserve Saugeen First Nation.
Notes on My Recent Work
-Working on my first year of my MFA Theatre Practices with a focus on Indigenous Playwriting and Storytelling
-Currently writing Draft 4 of CIVIL BLOOD: A Treaty Story
-Currently editing Draft 11 of The Eyes of Spirits
-Currently teaching part-time at Caraway School
-In May I will be streaming a "Stuck at Home" video for the Citadel Theatre
-In May I will be teaching a workshop on "Drama Creation" for ages 6-8 for the Citadel
-Will be streaming a short 3-minute piece for an online Stuck at Home Fringe Cabaret (Date TBA)
-Later, I will be streaming Rocko and Nakota: Tales From the Land as part of Astor Theatre's Online Fringe series (date TBA)
-Just accepted a writing agreement with Workshop West to write a 5-minute play inspired by this pandemic
-In the summer I will be learning Anishinaabe language online
-Going to continue writing Feast and expanding it into a one-act play (my Tiny Bear Jaws Christmas play)
